Forest Hill School

Remodel and restoration, Carmel-by-the-sea

The home was originally built as the Forest Hill School in 1935. This beautiful 3,600 square foot home was redesigned by local architect Brian Congleton AIA. The old school’s exterior has been completely restored to its former glory. All the original windows were replaced with new custom-made solid wood Sierra Pacific windows that replicate the originals to the inch. the exterior stucco was restored using some of the same stucco techniques as used in years past.

Taking advantage of the existing large open floor plan, Congleton transformed the “classroom” into the Living Room and replaced the original French doors with 3 sets of wood bi-folding doors that open out onto a large Garapa Ipe deck; creating the perfect indoor-outdoor living experience.
